Canadian Junior Hockey: A Breeding Ground For Morons
Why Team Canada 2010 will have to live with the mantle their juniors have perpetuated
PATRICE Cormier ’s sickening hit on Mikael Tam and the subsequent footage of the latter convulsing on the ice is further proof that the Canadian Junior Hockey system is fast becoming a conveyor belt of reckless morons.
The Rouyn-Noranda Huskies forward and captain of the Canadian Junior Hockey team will find out this Monday what action will be taken against him by the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for the inexcusable hit on Tam of the Quebec Ramparts.

Cormier’s hit – which has been viewed hundred of thousands of times on You Tube – was gutless and illustrates the negative coaching tactics that litter the Canadian junior hockey system. The player already has previous transgressions of this type to his name, as recently as in the World Junior Hockey Championships.
This is the same national program that developed Steve Downie, who was suspended for five games during his junior career for fighting a fellow teammate and, at 21 and in just three seasons, has already served sizable suspensions in three different leagues. One such suspension lasted 20 games in 2007 for a horrific hit on Dean McAmmond during a preseason game. And 20 games penalty came in 2009 from the AHL for slashing a referee.

Not to be overlooked is the most notorious of Canadian Bad Boys, Sean Avery. Signed by the Detroit Red Wings in 2000 as an undrafted free agent, Avery was traded to the L.A. Kings during the 2002-03 season. Ken Holland, who was the GM of Detroit at the time of the trade, was concerned about his “lack of respect for the game”.
After his notorious “sloppy seconds” comments regarding fellow NHLer Dion Phaneuf’s relationship with his ex-squeeze Elisha Cuthbert, Holland was quoted as saying that “[Avery] still hasn’t matured”.
The New York Rangers player even had a rule named after him, following his screening of New Jersey Devils Martin Brodeur. Speaking on behalf of the NHL, Colin Campbell issued this statement after an incident that involved Avery during the 2008 NHL playoffs.
“An unsportsmanlike conduct minor penalty will be interpreted and applied, effective immediately, to a situation when an offensive player positions himself facing the opposition goaltender and engages in actions such as waving his arms or stick in front of the goaltender’s face, for the purpose of improperly interfering with and/or distracting the goaltender as opposed to positioning himself to try to make a play,”
What kind of program fosters these kinds of behaviors?
This is the same program that brought about thugs like Chris Pronger who was suspended for stomping on Ryan Kesler’s leg on March 12, 2008. It also produced a dick like Dion Phaneuf who instead of taking Olympic tryouts seriously he was accused of drinking and partying with fellow Calgary Flames netminder, Miika Kipprusoff. Further increasing the list is Dany Heatley who crashed his Ferrari at high speed, literally splitting the car in half, killing his passenger and fellow teammate Dan Snyder.
So many instances of trouble and mishap and yet there has been no action against these players. Athletes in the NFL and NBA are convicted more regularly than NHL players. Gilbert Arenas has been suspended indefinitely from the NBA for his recent gun allegations, and most likely will face jail time. Mike Vick served two years in American Federal prison for financing a dog fighting ring.
So while Canada may be favored to win with the moneyline currently at -200 (Sportsbook.com), and obviously the entire Nation backing this team, you should think twice about supporting this team so vehemently. Because at the end of the day, in many ways this team is not much more than a bunch of spoiled white kids who have had everything done for them and have never faced any hardship.

What an outrageous, sensationalist and ultimately hateful article. To conflate the character of the Canadian Olympic Team with that of a handful of selfish Canadian hockey players (bearing no relation, with the exception of Pronger, to the Olympic team itself) is ludicrous.
This is poorly written, illogical, immature nonsense. Move along–nothing to see here.

Bwahahahaha!!! This is pure gold!
Unfortunately, you don’t need an education to publish articles on the internet. The brainwave (LOL) that resulted in this lovely piece must have been inspired by illegal substances. Nice try at connecting dots, though. HAHAHA!

This article is definitely revealing, but hateful? Come on buddy – you can’t dispute any of the facts. Think of all of the cheap shot artists in the NHL, now think of where they came from. That’s right, Canada. Canadians are good at hockey, but mainly because we’re willing to do anything to win, and that includes cheating.

people always have a stereotype of highschool football players being super aggressive, loud-mouthed pieces of shit. at the end of the day tho hockey players are way worse. and this is coming from someone who grew up with both sports… hockey is way worse

lets keep going. im having fun. No shit NBA and NFL players get convicted more often than NHL’ers like you so intuitively noted. They bring F*cking guns to work. What do you expect. They shoot themselves in the leg at night clubs. You gave examples of Vick and Arenas.Thos are two of the more recent. The reason Canadian hockey players dont get arrested as much as NFL and NBA stars is because they dont do things that warrent getting arrested. And when they have done something they get arrestedlike anyone else, just like Mike Danton did. Being a loud mouth aint the same as bringing your gun to work and flashing it at a teammate. So quit being a whiner and just come out of the closet and admit you bash Canada cos you love it…….man, would I like to have a conversation with you, I bet your a hoot.
